Momentive Specialty Chemicals’ New Coating Resins Plant in Thailand Designed to Meet Local Needs

August 29, 2013 at 10:00 AM EDT

COLUMBUS, Ohio (Aug. 29, 2013) – Momentive Specialty Chemicals Inc. (“Momentive Specialty Chemicals,” “MSC” or the “Company”) recently announced the successful startup of its new plant in Chonburi, Thailand. To celebrate this achievement MSC leadership has invited customers and special guests to a two-day grand opening event set for Sept. 10 – 11. The celebration coincides with MSC’s participation in the Asia Pacific Coatings Show (APCS) slated to open in Bangkok on Sept. 12.

The event is planned to showcase the technology within the new production facility and includes the product development and application laboratories, as well as technical service and application support capabilities for customers. These features enable MSC to support customers in testing and developing products according to national and international standards, and help them to design the best formulations for their markets.

“The plant, which significantly increased the Company’s capacity to produce acrylic-based resins, was specifically designed to offer an expanded product line to better serve customers in this region,” said Philip Marsh, Global Coatings Leader, Momentive Specialty Chemicals. “Several new featured products are being produced at MSC’s newly opened Chonburi facility to support customers who produce paints, roof tile coatings, plasters, flexible membranes, adhesives and other products,” added Marsh.

The following products are being manufactured at the new site facility, and they will be featured at the upcoming APCS at the Momentive Specialty Chemicals booth B-1 in hall 102.

Axilat™ L3783 copolymer is a water-based styrene acrylic copolymer produced at the new site. It is designed to be formulated with both interior and exterior paints and plasters, and can be used in high PVC paints to provide very high binding power, excellent wet scrub resistance and good resistance to water and alkalis.

Another product available for the Asia Pacific market is MSC’s Axilat L8705 copolymer, which delivers top-line mechanical properties and resistance to abrasion, alkali and water deterioration. This product is designed for two-component flexible coatings and gap filling elastic formulating systems.

Also for coatings, Axilat 8202MB copolymer is a water-based styrene acrylic copolymer designed and formulated to deliver improved environmental profiles. Its high pigment binding capacity provides higher scrub resistance. Also, due to low minimum film forming temperature, the paint forms a continuous film without the use of a coalescing solvent so it is possible to formulate low smell and low emission paints.
