Hexion Joins FastRTM and FastFORM Projects, Contributing Latest Thermoset Matrix and Binder Technologies for High Build Rates

March 8, 2016 at 11:01 AM EST

COLUMBUS, Ohio - (March 8, 2016) - Hexion Inc. (“Hexion” or the “Company”) recently became an active member of the French FastRTM project, dedicated to demonstrating the feasibility of mass-producing structural automobile composite parts using the resin transfer molding (RTM) process. In volume manufacturing, speed is crucial. Hexion will provide expertise on fast-cure epoxy resin systems and on optimization of RTM and liquid compression molding (LCM) processes in order to allow part-to-part production cycles of 2 minutes or less.

Hexion will also join the related FastFORM project, which begins in 2016 and aims to investigate suitable ways to mass-produce preforms. For FastFORM, Hexion will focus on the influence and development of preform binder chemistry.

Both FastRTM and FastFORM are French national platform projects conducted by the Institut de Recherche Technologique M2P in Metz, France and supported by a consortium of industrial and academic partners. The mission of the IRT M2P is to combine the skills, equipment and technological know-how of industry and academia to enable practical innovation in strategic areas for France.

“By participating in these two projects, Hexion strengthens its position as a leading player in the French industry for resin matrix technologies specifically tailored to mass production in composite applications,” said Jean-Philippe Sauvaget, Hexion's Director Business Development Automotive - Europe. The company has already proven its value in the RTM/LCM arena through current partnerships with global Automotive manufacturers including Audi and BMW.

Visitors to the JEC show in Paris, March 8-10 can visit with Hexion representatives in Hall 6 Booth F54 and learn more about the Company’s latest developments.
